Licenses are required for services such as construction and consulting.  Accountants should register and be admitted at the Suriname Chartered Accountants Institute before practicing their profession.  Notaries are appointed and work under the supervision of the Court of Justice.  Before they can practice law, lawyers must be authorized by the Court of Justice. 

Businesses in 26 sectors must obtain a business license from the Business Licenses Department at the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The waiting time from application to approval is three months. On average, business licenses are issued 21 days after approval.
