All categories of products may be imported into the Republic of the Congo with two exceptions – sugar and eggs.  Some items such as motor vehicles are heavily taxed (up to a 50 percent import duty).  Customs can sometimes inflict unnecessary trade barriers, with arbitrary, irregular, or uneven enforcement of regulations.
