Mobile money payments are providing the necessary platform for e-commerce to thrive.  Improvements in mobile coverage in the country, increasing delivery/logistical systems, and increasing integration and interoperable financial systems are all influencing ecommerce’s growth.  Rikaab—a ride hailing service—has recently introduced a delivery application that allows vendors and online shoppers to connect, helping to drive e-commerce opportunities.  Hayat Supermarket has also established a home delivery unit and has merged its app with its delivery unit to provide a seamless shopping experience.  Similar e-commerce opportunities may exist in other market segments.

Data protection, privacy, and consumer protection issues may hamper the growth of e-commerce in Somalia.
