While an attractive market for many investors, companies may experience market challenges in North Macedonia. The slow-moving judicial system, some legislative and regulatory contradictions, a relatively slow bureaucracy, and weak rule of law and corruption can cause issues as companies enter and operate in the market. Additionally, irregular tendering processes, inconsistent enforcement of intellectual property rights, delays in collecting payments from both public and private sector entities and needed improvements to transportation infrastructure can cause operational issues. Upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections, likely to occur in the first half of 2024, could limit the availability and willingness of government officials to commit to new projects.
