United States and United Arab Emirates Intend to Deepen Collaboration in the Digital Economy

WASHINGTON – Following Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Global Markets and Director General of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service Arun Venkataraman’s recent visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Department of Commerce and the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Artificial Intelligence issued a joint statement recognizing the importance of deepening U.S.-UAE cooperation on policies and practices affecting the digital economy.
Led by the International Trade Administration in partnership with the UAE Ministry of Artificial Intelligence, the joint statement will help to facilitate efforts to bridge regulatory differences between the United States and the UAE; share information on international frameworks such as the Cross Border Privacy Rules System; and promote interoperability between our countries’ respective data privacy regimes.
“Trusted global data flows are critical to our modern economy, which is why we work to advance cross-border data flows to support U.S. industries,” said Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Industry & Analysis Grant Harris. “This work is important to advancing the competitiveness of U.S. companies and supporting jobs in the United States. We welcome enhanced collaboration with our colleagues in the Government of the United Arab Emirates on these issues and look forward to continuing discussions about the opportunities presented by the creation of the new Global Cross Border Privacy Rules Forum.”
