WASHINGTON - From December 5-8, 2023, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago will lead the International Trade Administration’s (ITA) delegation at the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, affirming the U.S. Department of Commerce’s commitment to advancing a climate-resilient economy and promoting the leading role that the U.S. private sector plays in developing and delivering innovative climate solutions and clean technologies to combat global climate change.
“The United States is home to one of the largest markets for clean technology and environmental goods and services in the world, and U.S. companies are leaders in developing the solutions that can help meet global climate objectives,” said Under Secretary Lago. “At COP28, ITA’s global team of industry and trade experts will be highlighting how we are supporting U.S businesses and their workers. We’ll also be promoting public-private initiatives that can help countries around the world to address climate change as we work towards a net zero future.”
The climate crisis has had significant adverse impacts on communities and economies worldwide and demands urgent actions to mitigate and adapt to the most severe impacts of climate change. At COP28, Under Secretary Lago will lead ITA’s largest delegation at a COP to date, and will represent the Commerce Department in a series of high-level bilateral diplomatic engagements with foreign counterparts to further international economic cooperation and commercial ties to combat climate change and strengthen climate adaptation and resilience. She will also hold meetings with U.S. and global companies and non-government organizations to advance public-private partnerships to explore how trade can incentivize higher climate ambition. The Under Secretary will also speak at several public events on the importance of connecting with U.S. industry, which has cutting-edge solutions to unlock opportunities to advance the clean energy transition and ocean innovation.
