Assistant Secretary Venkataraman to Travel to Vietnam to Advance Commercial Ties

Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Global Markets and Director General of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service Arun Venkataraman will travel to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from October 28-30, to advance U.S.-Vietnam bilateral commercial ties.

During the visit, Assistant Secretary Venkataraman will meet with senior government officials of Vietnam’s Central Economic Committee, as well as the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Industry and Trade, Public Security, Planning and Investment, Information and Communications, and National Defense to discuss the one-year milestone of the upgrade of our relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. During his engagements, the Assistant Secretary will underscore the United States’ commitment to aligning on digital policies that not only help to facilitate bilateral trade and investment, but also position the United States and Vietnam as leaders in the digital economy, a dynamic and growing sector that is driving economic growth in both countries. 

The Assistant Secretary will also discuss increasing cooperation on supply chain diversification and resilience, clean energy and technology, as well as other areas where U.S. private sector innovation and leadership can support Vietnam as it seeks to accomplish its economic development objectives, and the latest progress on the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF).

Assistant Secretary Venkataraman will also meet with U.S. private sector leaders to discuss ongoing efforts that the Commerce Department is taking to deepen U.S.-Vietnam commercial ties and to discuss ways that the United States can partner more closely with the U.S. business community in Vietnam to create more opportunities for U.S. exporters.
