UK Defense Market – Future Satellite Communications
The UK Ministry of Defense operates a family of military communications satellites that is approaching the end of its life cycle. The MOD is seeking advice to help it define its future satellite communications capabilities and is seeking innovators in industry to help it understand new trends and new technology to help the MOD design its future satellite based strategic communication services.
To build this new network of communications satellites, the MOD is seeking assistance from industry and academia in investigating:
- new ideas, capabilities and services
- the exploitation of its existing systems and information
- terminals, ground equipment and needed infrastructure
- network efficiency
- technologies to manage risks, hazards and hostile threats
- propulsion technologies
- in-orbit servicing
- inter-satellite links
- telemetry, tracking and command technologies
- satellite-based situational awareness technologies
To help gather this information from industry and academia, the MOD will at various times release Requests for Information (RFI) to industry in order to examine specific capability or technology topics.
