Thailand Rail Passenger Cars Upgrade
Thailand’s planned railway upgrades present potential opportunities for U.S. companies involved in rail transportation, engineering, and manufacturing. The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) plans to upgrade 130 third-class passenger cards from fan-powered to air-conditioned models with an estimated budget of $28 million. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the comfort and service quality of Thailand’s public transportation network to boost passenger satisfaction and increase the appeal of rail travel in Thailand.
SRT is expected to initiate a project for upgrading the first 40 cars in summer 2025. The budget request for the remaining 90 passenger cars is scheduled for 2026 and 2027. Upgrades include the installation of air conditioners, redesigned, more comfortable seating, improved toilet facilities, and enhanced interiors. U.S. companies specializing in rail infrastructure, HVAC systems, and passenger comfort solutions may find partnership and supply chain opportunities in this initiative.
Interested U.S. rail manufacturers and spare parts suppliers must partner with qualified Thai companies to bid on this project.
