Qatar 2024-2030 Renewable Energy Climate Change Strategy
In November 2024 Qatar’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) launched its 2024-2030 strategy under the theme “Together toward a sustainable environment for a better future,” setting goals to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 25%, restore 30% of impacted natural resources, protect 30% of island and coastal areas, and conserve 17 endangered species. The country’s focus includes environmental protection, sustainable cities, green transportation, clean energy and digital transformation.
Qatar’s MECC participated in the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) on Climate Changes on November 11, 2024. During the conference MECC emphasized that Qatar is actively working to protect the environment and combat climate change with sustainability being one the pillars of Qatar’s National Vision 2030. MECC also re-affirmed its commitment to their 2021 National Determined Contribution (NDCs) which outlined its achievements and plans in addressing climate change.
