Mexico Carta Porte Supplement Update

This requirement applies only to Mexican entities and companies with Mexican Tax IDs. However, failure to comply with this requirement will trigger fines, and it may result in the Mexican company shutdowns. Carta Porte 3.0 comes with critical implications related to the Digital Tax Receipt by Internet (CFDI) documents, formats, and invoices generated by Mexican companies’ electronic platforms. There is a transition period during which Mexican taxpayers are expected to adapt to this new paperwork version. However, it is crucial to note that this transition period only lasts until December 31 of the current year. After this deadline, the use of the older set of documents in version 2.0 will no longer be allowed.

The Mexican government implemented several changes in this version to help Mexican companies that must comply with this requirement to better track cargo, smooth customs, and audits processes, and combat fraudulent activities. Here are the highlights:

1.- Additional Cargo Information - Requires more detailed information about the cargo’s origin, destination, and characteristics. This includes the names and tax IDs of the sender and recipient, cargo identification numbers, cargo weight, and dimensions, as well as the type of transport.

2.-Mandatory Usage of Bill of Lading Complement/ Carta Porte for International Trade - As of January 1, 2024, it is imperative that the Carta Porte Supplement be used for any import and export international road trade.

3.- Streamlined Issuance Process - The process for generating the Carta Porte Supplement has been simplified to facilitate the process for Mexican taxpayers.
