Kenya Potato Equipment Suppliers
The Government of Kenya has invested Sh300 million (approximately $2.1 million USD) in building cold storage facilities in two major counties to support the mechanization of potato farming in the country. The facilities are expected to help farmers cut post-harvest losses and boost the government’s economic transformation agenda. In addition, Kenya recently formed a new potato consortium that aims to boost farmers’ access to farming inputs and markets.
Fast food chains continue to proliferate in Kenya and the demand for potatoes continue to increase due to urbanization, ease of cooking and affordability. In addition Kenya’s Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Co-operatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises are keen to aggregate farmers and link them with markets.
The American fast food franchise KFC has identified two local suppliers with processing, tracking, and cold chain management capability to supply its chain with pre-sliced potatoes. This has created an opportunity for US suppliers of potato processing machines, including potato peelers, slicers and packing machines.
