Indonesian Halal Product Assurance Product Scope
The government of Indonesia’s Ministry of Religion in October 2020 issued via Decree Number 464 a list of 48 types of products that must obtain halal certification or display labeling stating that their product and/or ingredients are haram (not halal). In principle, products not included in this list will not be able to obtain halal certification. An unofficial translation of the product categories, without section details, is below.

Halal Law implementing regulations enacted on October 17, 2019 stated that halal certification and labeling requirements will become mandatory starting on October 17, 2024 for food and beverage products; on October 17, 2026 for traditional medicines and food supplements, cosmetics, chemical products and genetically modified organisms, wearable clothing items, household appliances and office products, and Class A medical devices; on October 17, 2029 for over-the-counter medicines and Class B medical devices; and on October 17, 2034 for prescription medicines and Class C medical devices.
