Hungary to prioritize Healthcare developments thanks to EU Presidency

The government of Hungary approved increased financial support worth of HUF 88 billion (USD 248m) to the capital city of Budapest and its district councils for the development of the capital city’s healthcare system and improving the quality of healthcare services.

The State Secretary for Health has commented that HUF 34 billion (USD 110m) had been allocated to the modernization of 11 national institutions, 13 hospitals and 32 specialized clinics for the Healthy Budapest Program.

Under the Healthy Budapest Program, more than HUF 2.7 billion (USD 7.9m) in additional funding is earmarked to reduce the waiting lists for CAT scans and MRI examinations at public hospitals.

Opportunities for U.S. made medical technologies are expected to arise in diagnostics and medical imaging systems as the U.S. healthcare industry has a strong worldwide reputation for innovation, quality and after-sale service, and are well-positioned to compete in Hungary’s healthcare market.

The State Secretary for Health said that Budapest was constantly delayed in using the resources for healthcare development, which had prompted the government to extend the deadline for accessing the resources from 2020 and 2021 until the end of 2024.  The State Secretary for Health also confirmed that more tenders are expected to be published on the Electronic Tender System website for the fall.
