Data recently released by the National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) show that in October 2024:
U.S.-international air traffic passenger enplanements1 totaled:
- 21.347 million in October 2024, up 4.4% percent compared to October 2023, with enplanements reaching 106.5 percent of pre-pandemic October 2019 volume.
Originating Non-Stop Air Travel in October 2024
- Non-U.S. citizen air passenger arrivals to the United States from foreign countries totaled:
- 4.983 million in October 2024, up 3.8 percent compared to October 2023.
- This represents 92.4 percent of pre-pandemic October 2019 volume.
On a related note, overseas visitor arrivals2 totaled 3.154 million in October 2024, the twentieth consecutive month overseas visitor arrivals exceeded 2.0 million. October overseas visitor arrivals reached 89.8 percent of pre-pandemic October 2019 volume, up from 87.9 percent in September 2024. (See October I-94 Advance Release.)
- U.S. citizen air passenger departures from the United States to foreign countries totaled:
- 5.422 million in October 2024, up 7.7 percent compared to October 2023.
- This exceeded October 2019 volume by 23.1 percent.
World Region Highlights in October 2024 (APIS/I-92 arrivals + departures)
- Total air passenger travel (arrivals and departures) between the United States and other countries was led by Mexico 2.897 million, Canada 2.746 million, the United Kingdom 1.934 million, Germany 1.020 million, and Japan 883,000.
- International Regional air travel to/from the United States:
- Europe totaled 6.992 million passengers, up 4 percent over October 2023, and up only (+2 percent) compared to October 2019.
- (U.S citizen departures were up 17.3 percent compared to October 2019, while European citizen arrivals were down -12.9 percent.)

- South/Central America/Caribbean totaled 4.445 million, up 0.5 percent over October 2023, and up 17.2 percent compared to October 2019.
- Asia totaled 2.526 million passengers, up 12.8 percent over October 2023, but down (-17.7 percent) compared to October 2019.
- (Asian citizen arrivals to the U.S. were down -33.6 percent compared to October 2019, and U.S. citizen departures were +11.0 percent)

- Europe totaled 6.992 million passengers, up 4 percent over October 2023, and up only (+2 percent) compared to October 2019.
- Top U.S. Ports serving international locations were New York (JFK) 3.029 million, Los Angeles (LAX) 1.971 million, Miami (MIA) 1.815 million, San Francisco (SFO) 1.358 million, and Newark (EWR) 1.279 million.
- Top Foreign Ports serving U.S. locations were London Heathrow (LHR) 1.637 million, Toronto (YYZ) 1.103 million, Paris (CDG) 749,000, Cancun (CUN) 725,000, and Mexico City (MEX) 693,000.

The data has been collected from the Department of Homeland Security - Customs and Border Protection’s Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) since July 2010. The APIS based “I-92” system provides air traffic data on the following parameters: number of passengers, by country, airport, scheduled or chartered, U.S. Flag, foreign flag, citizens and non-citizens.
