Overview
Zimbabwe’s medical laboratory supplies and equipment sector includes U.S. and other companies. Currently, there is no regulator or government oversight for the sector, although existing companies would welcome such a body. The pharmaceutical regulator, the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe, is currently not equipped to deal with regulation of medical equipment.
Leading Sub-Sectors
Leading sub-sectors include medical equipment that can support the government’s efforts to address COVID-19, malaria, pregnancies, HIV, and full-blood lab workup requirements.
Opportunities
Opportunities for U.S. companies to provide equipment exist in this sector, but they need to have local representatives that are patient and well-funded. Zimbabwe has a history of staying loyal to existing brands already on the market. New companies will take longer to get a foothold in the market.
