Many EU Member States maintain their own lists of goods subject to import licensing. In Austria, restricted products include weapons and several categories of dual-use items found in the Wassenaar Arrangement list. The TARIC described above is available to help determine if a license is required for a particular product. The European Commission maintains a Trade Helpdesk with information on import restrictions of various products.
The U.S. Commercial Service office at the U.S. Mission to the EU (CS European Union) has expert staff dedicated to tracking changes to EU trade regulations. U.S. companies seeking information about EU-wide import requirements are encouraged to review the U.S. Commercial Service’s Commercial Guide for the European Union for detailed information on general EU import requirements as well as those for specific products including batteries, electronics, agriculture, and cosmetics, among others.
