Small Pittsburgh Business Succeeds in Colombia

KOBOLD Instruments team connecting at Bogota Fair

KOBOLD Instruments is a small Pittsburgh business offering cutting-edge solutions for process measurement and control, providing a wide range of sensors, switches, and transmitters designed to measure and control flow, pressure, level, and temperature. KOBOLD Instruments sells its industrial process controls to other markets in the Western Hemisphere and requested the support of the U.S. Commercial Service (CS) Pittsburgh office as they attempted to enter Colombia. They wanted to secure a partner that would ideally be a distributor or sales representative that offered complementary products in the Colombian market.

CS Pittsburgh connected KOBOLD Instruments with the CS Bogota team and after initial counseling, CS Bogota prepared an Initial Market Check (IMC) report which assessed the company’s market potential. After the IMC identified several companies with an interest in speaking with KOBOLD, CS Bogota arranged a virtual introduction between KOBOLD and one of these candidates. After their conversation with the company, KOBOLD verified that they had secured the support in Colombia they were looking for via a new partner and have already drawn up plans to co-exhibit at a major fair in September 2024.

“The U.S. Commercial Service was a tremendous help in enabling us to expand our reach in new markets across Latin America, starting with Colombia. We quickly found the ideal partner to help us grow as a result of working with the teams in Pittsburgh and Bogota. We’re already pursuing similar projects in other markets in the region.” Thomas Bloom General Manager, KOBOLD
