WASHINGTON - From October 18-20, Arun Venkataraman, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Global Markets and Director General of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service, will travel to New Delhi and Hyderabad, India, where he will meet with government officials and industry stakeholders to advance bilateral trade and discuss future areas of focus under the U.S.-India Commercial Dialogue.
Assistant Secretary Venkataraman’s commercial diplomacy trip will seek to deepen U.S.-India bilateral ties and increase cooperation between the two countries’ startup and innovation ecosystems.
Assistant Secretary Venkataraman’s trip advances a new initiative, the “Innovation Handshake,” which was launched under the U.S.-India Commercial Dialogue and is led by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry to promote innovation and job growth, especially in critical and emerging technologies between the United States and India.
In New Delhi, Assistant Secretary Venkataraman will participate in a panel discussion on U.S.-India collaboration on technology at the TechSurge conference and meet with India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry to hold a mid-year review of the U.S.-India Commercial Dialogue, which U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo and Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal last convened in March 2023 in India.
Assistant Secretary Venkataraman will also meet with India’s Department for the Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade to discuss the U.S.-India CEO Forum and the U.S.-India commercial relationship, and with India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to discuss issues related to the digital economy.
In Hyderabad, Assistant Secretary Venkataraman will engage with U.S. and Indian tech incubators as the U.S. Department of Commerce continues preparations for signature events taking place under the Innovation Handshake.
This is Assistant Secretary Venkataraman’s second official trip to India this year.
