The U.S. Commercial Service in Mexico City is seeking a student for a Commercial Service Intern position.

  • Open to: All Interested Mexican Citizen Students
  • Position name: MEX Internship Commercial Service.
  • Closing Date: 01/26/2024 for summer period and 05/03/2024 for fall period
  • Duration: Spring/Fall:  Part-time - 20 hours/week. Schedule may be adapted to the student’s needs.
                        Summer: Full time 40 hours/week
  • This is a volunteer position, under a Gratuitous Service Agreement. There are no benefits, compensation, or future employment rights attached to this internship.


Basic Function of Position

The Commercial Service is an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce dedicated to expanding bilateral trade by promoting U.S. exports to Mexico and Mexican investment in the U.S. The Commercial Service is committed to giving Mexican students an enriching experience by providing them the opportunity to learn about and engage in commercial diplomacy first hand. You will work as part of a dynamic team of two Commercial Service experts, led by a Commercial Consul. The major sectors handled by the Mexico City office include: Energy, IT, Aerospace, Healthcare, and Automotive. Specifically, interns will:

- Conduct market research, focusing on business opportunities for U.S. exporters.

- Assist Commercial Specialists in the preparation of products/services for U.S. exporters, including but not limited to internet searches for potential local partners, calls to Mexican companies introducing them to potential U.S. partners, setting up meeting schedules for visiting U.S. companies, liaising with local business associations.

- Collect and analyze data, both external trade data and internal performance measures.

- Assist in the preparation and monitoring of social media

- Attend meetings with local companies and accompany staff on tours of local U.S. manufacturers to better understand international commerce; and

- Perform basic office administrative functions and other duties, as assigned.

 

Requirements


Qualifications

Note: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each criterion:

- Applicants must be enrolled in a college/university school pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree preferably in International Relations, Business, Economics, or related subjects.

- Fluent English and Spanish (speak/read/write).

- Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Word, Adobe, Excel).

Minimum Eligibility Criteria

Only Mexican Nationals attending local universities are eligible. Students must have at least one year remaining on their school program, to apply for this position.

            - Eligible students must meet the definition of a student as follows:


“An individual who is enrolled not less than half-time in a trade school, technical or vocational institute, junior college, college, university or comparable recognized educational institution. All Mexican National Student Intern Program applicants must have graduated from high school or equivalent secondary school prior to beginning the internship”.


ALL APPLICANTS MUST PASS A PARTIAL SECURITY CERTIFICATION PROCESS PRIOR TO BEGINNING THEIR INTERNSHIP, WHICH CAN TAKE SEVERAL WEEKS TO BE COMPLETED.

Mission’s requirements for Mexican Student Interns:

- Minimum age: Intern Program applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.

- The student must be in good academic standing at their current educational institution. A minimum GPA of 8.0 is required.

- The student must receive a security certification from the Regional Security Office (RSO).

- The student must be covered by his/her own medical insurance. The Embassy/FCS Mexico City is/will not be responsible of any accidents, harm, or any other similar circumstance that the intern may experience while working in our offices.
