United Kingdom Nuclear Decommissioning
Magnox Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, is responsible for the safe and secure clean-up of 12 nuclear sites. In July 2022, the organization officially launched its new supply chain strategy with the aim of encouraging the development of sustainable solutions to nuclear decommissioning challenges. The procurement plan for the next 12 month has a budget of over $50millions representing significant opportunities for engineering and waste management, disposal & storage companies.
Each of the 12 Magnox sites is at different stage in its lifecycle, and the supply chain requirements range from conventional services such as scaffolding and demolition, to the more specialist areas of waste retrieval and decommissioning.
Magnox does not operate a preferred supplier list but instead award contract opportunities through open competition. There are different ways to access contract opportunities with Magnox:
- Framework Contracts awarded by Crown Commercial Services: Magnox procures contracts through frameworks awarded by Crown Commercial Services which can be used by the wider public sector.
- Complete Tender Management (CTM): Magnox use CTM to advertise and manage all tendered opportunities. Companies will need to register to the CTM and once they are on the system, they will be able to use it to manage tendering activities.
- Contracts Finder: procurements over the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) financial thresholds are also automatically advertised on the government’s Contracts Finder portal.
