United Kingdom Government Launches Taskforce

On November 12, 2020 the UK Government launched its Green Jobs Taskforce, with the aim to create 2 million green jobs by 2030.  The taskforce is part of the government’s overall plans to build back greener and to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Co-chaired by the UK’s Energy Minister and the UK’s Skills Minister, the taskforce represents views from businesses, employees, and the skills sector.  The group will assess how the job market and skills sector must adapt to support net zero.  It will focus on the immediate and long-term challenges of delivering skilled workers for the future and will advise what support is needed for workers in transitioning industries.  The UK government’s renewed emphasis on green jobs, retraining, and diversity will set the direction for the job market as the UK transitions to a high-skill, low carbon economy.
