Thailand Transportation Railway
The Board of State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has approved the purchase of 946 freight cars and bogies, worth more than $70 million, in response to the high demand from the private sector for local goods transportation. SRT is the Thai government-owned rail operator under the Ministry of Transport.
SRT will seek approval from the Ministry of Transport before submitting the proposal to the new Thai Cabinet for approval. After receiving approval, the procurement process will take approximately six months. SRT hopes to receive new freight carriages and bogies within two years. The bidding specification requires the freight cars to have at least 40% local content.
Notably, Thailand does not have local bogie manufacturers. U.S. companies may be eligible to participate in the bidding process by importing bogies parts and completing assembly with the freight cars in Thailand.
