Thailand Aesthetics Medicine

According to Siam Commercial Bank, Thailand ranked fourth in Asia after South Korea, Japan, and China in terms of revenue from medical aesthetic tourism.  Aesthetic medicine is the second most popular medical treatment after dental treatment among medical tourists.  Local and overseas customers, notably from Cambodia, Laos, Burma, Vietnam, and Australia, are major consumers.  Thailand’s Medical Hub Board forecasts that Thailand’s medical aesthetic market will reach $7.51 billion in 2027 (Three times the market size in 2020).

Thailand has 7,000 aesthetic clinics, including 2,000 in Bangkok and 5,000 in other provinces.  Many beauty surgery clinics and hospitals are expanding into comprehensive plastic surgery hospitals.  Thai providers of aesthetic medicine often partner with Korean corporations, the market leaders in plastic surgery, to launch and operate aesthetic medicine instructional institutes.

In the past, aesthetic medicine in Thailand was most popular among adults ages 50 and above.  Now, procedures are increasingly popular among the younger generations.  The Health & Wellness Survey 2023 from Siam Commercial Bank’s Economic Intelligence Center reports that 11 percent of Gen Z (age 12-27) regard medical aesthetics as highly import, compared to 9 percent of Gen Y (age 28-43), 5 percent of Baby boomers (ages 60-69), and 3percent percent of Gen X (age 44-59).

According to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the most popular plastic surgery procedures in Thailand are:

Non-invasive procedures

  • Facial shaping injections such as Botox and fillers
  • Facelift, whitening and pore-tightening laser
  • Meso-lipolysis

Invasive procedures

  • Nose and eye cosmetic surgery
  • Breast surgery
  • Liposuction
