Tanzania Aerospace Sector
The Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) plans to construct one of the biggest aviation training center in Africa.
The country’s national carrier, Air Tanzania, struggled to develop a large flight network as its small fleet limited its growth potential. From the year 2015 this changed when the Late President Magufuli took office and prioritized the sector by revamping Air Tanzania Corporation Limited (ATCL).
The revamping process saw procurement of new aircrafts and building of new airports. Currently ATCL boast 11 aircraft in its fleet including two Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners. The country also plans to construct and upgrade existing regional airports. In addition, four new Boeing aircraft (three passenger jets and one freighter) will enter the fleet by 2026.
Growth in the fleet of aircraft and construction of new airports creates opportunities for U.S companies to look into:
- Pilot training, construction of simulators
- Supply of spare parts
- Supply of technologies at airport towers
The TCAA is finalizing a feasibility study on the construction of a new civil aviation training center. The current center trains individuals from 12 African countries. Due to increase demand for the training, TCAA seeks to expand its facilities.
The facilities will include training on aeronautical information management, communication navigation surveillance, air traffic management, airport operations and aviation security. The center will not focus on pilot training or aircraft maintenance.
With the construction of a new facility comes a need of new equipment and technology.
TCAA welcomes US participation in seeing this project take off. For more information contact Commercial Specialist Athanasius Lupatu at the U.S Commercial Service, U.S Embassy, Dar es Salaam, Athanasius.Lupatu@trade.gov.
