Taiwan Desalination Plant Opportunities
In recent years, water scarcity issues in Taiwan have become a hot topic for various reasons, including the recurrent drought conditions, the increased reshoring of manufacturing operations from China, and the continued expansion plans for semiconductor manufacturers which require large amounts of water for their manufacturing processes, all of which have driven a demand for Taiwan authorities to seek actively solutions to ensure a steady water supply.
In the upcoming years, the Taiwan Water Resources Agency has plans for eight new desalination plants island-wide whose development schedules will be rolled out in three distinct groupings starting from March 2024, presenting opportunities for U.S. companies with expertise in the design, construction, and operation of such facilities, as well as the technologies and techniques therein. The first two plants, in Hsinchu and Tainan, have passed the EIA this year and will boast a capacity of processing 100,000 tons of water per day.
U.S. companies with expertise and interest in exploring these opportunities related to Taiwan’s desalination projects should contact Joyce Tang Joyce.Tang@trade.gov for more information.
