South African information technology for wide area networks
One of the trends to look out for in the South African IT sector is the growing popularity towards SD-WAN. SD-WAN is the software approach to manage Wide Area Networks. These solutions are starting to increase in popularity partly due to the pandemic driven support needed for teleworking and decreasing high operational costs.
With remote working, there comes an increase in cyber vulnerability and a need for firms to invest in significant cloud infrastructure to focus on business continuity. Initially firms will need to find the funds to invest in SD-WAN but eventually this will produce long term cost benefits, easier operational management and increased agility to connect to the cloud.
In South Africa, there are U.S. and international firms offering solutions as well as local smaller firms offering SD-WAN lite alternatives to SMEs. There are opportunities to partner with South African companies to offer various solutions in order to increase business continuity and slowly leave the restricted WANs behind.
