Soloman Islands Bina Harbour Development Project
The Bina Harbour development is a major infrastructure investment project for the Solomon Islands. In 2016, the Solomon Islands government endorsed Bina Harbour in Malaita Province to establish an international seaport and tuna processing facility in the country. The Solomon Islands government has committed public funds and collaborated with development partners including Australia, New Zealand, and International Finance Corporation (IFC) on the initial phase of the project for land mobilization, financial and economic analysis, and a business case for potential investors.
The Bina Harbour development project aims to create economic opportunities in the province of Malaita by building a tuna plant operation, delivering a climate resilient and disaster proof international port for the country, establishing reliable supply routes to support commercial activities, and enhancing national and provincial government economic development strategies .
The Project Management Office in Honiara is currently working on a business case to support the project from its current conceptual stage to realization. The government is seeking financing for port development and a partner for the tuna operations. The construction phase of the Harbour is anticipated to occur from 2025 to 2026 pending financing and approvals. This is an opportunity for U.S. companies specializing in either manufacturing plant operations or port infrastructure and services to participate and support the development of critical infrastructure in Solomon Islands.
