Singapore Mega Port Shipping Hub of ASEAN
As of October 1, 2021, Singapore Tuas Mega port will be designated as an immigration anchorage for vessels arriving in or leaving Singapore. This mega port will include equipment such as automated rail mounted gantry cranes, double-trolley quay cranes, and automated guided vehicles to assist in port operations, such as shifting containers.
The mega port will comprise four phases in total and cost over $20 billion. This will be the world’s largest fully automated terminal with automated wharf and yard functions.
Tuas Port will be able to handle 65 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually, almost double the 36.9 million TEUs that Singapore handled in 2020.
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Singapore’s container trade volume has continued to perform well. Singapore Tuas Mega Port will strengthen Singapore’s connectivity and enhance its position as a global transshipment hub, benefiting the maritime industry and supporting the growth of manufacturing, logistics, and supply chain companies.
