Singapore Advanced Manufacturing Opportunities

Singapore is already one of the leading semiconductor manufacturers in the world and now seeks to transform its high tech manufacturing, creating opportunities for U.S. manufacturing solution providers. Despite its small population, the country remains competitive, being the fifth-largest global exporter of high-tech goods. With stable governance and policies set to boost the manufacturing industry, the country is attractive to leading firms in the high-tech sector, such as Micron, Infineon, and HP, who have set up next-generation manufacturing facilities in Singapore. Today, the country accounts for 10% of the global chip market and 20% of chip equipment production worldwide.

As the country faces an aging workforce within the sector, the government is addressing the issue by transforming manufacturing through ‘Industry 4.0’. The initiative proposes using advanced technology to increase labor efficiency and reduce labor-intensive activities that could pose a danger to workers. Singapore’s efforts to transform the country into a world-class manufacturing ecosystem has led companies to evolve their R&D centers, production facilities, and supply chain management functions to serve the region. Singapore is a good market for advanced manufacturing as it has cost-competitive logistic solutions, high-quality infrastructure, and a highly skilled workforce.

In 2024, the government heavily invested in the manufacturing sector and committed a further US$3 billion to sustain R&D initiatives in advanced manufacturing and other priority sectors. Additionally, Singapore is looking towards enhancing the labor force through training programs to ensure alignment with essential advanced skills and the growing demand for evolving technologies.
