SHANXI China ENERGY TRANSITION MARKET
China’s State Council designated Shanxi Province as an energy transition pilot province. Shanxi authorities see an opportunity to harness a clean energy transition to boost the province’s long-term GDP.
As the Province focuses on greater investment in its energy transition, opportunities exist for U.S. companies offering clean energy solutions.
Shanxi produces 25% of China’s coal, 66% of which is sent to other provinces. Shanxi also produces 33% of China’s non-conventional renewable power gas through coal-bed methane resources. The Province is looking to develop their carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) and hydrogen industries, which will launch with demonstration projects. This development offers U.S. companies concrete opportunities to partner with Chinese private and state-owned enterprises on large-scale demonstration projects.
