Serbia Renewable Energy Solar Power Plant Development

The Government of Serbia has launched a public call to select a strategic partner to install solar power plants totaling 1 GW in connection capacity (1.2 GW in peak terms) alongside at least 200 MW of battery storage with the possibility of storing a minimum of 400 MWh.  The selected partner will build the power plants and hand them over to state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) - under a turnkey deal.  The chosen company would operate and maintain the solar power plants and batteries for two years.  The strategic partner call opens significant opportunities for the U.S. solar power plant developers and producers of related equipment.  The deadline to file offers for the strategic partnership to install solar power plants and battery storage is September 20.

The bidding criteria specifies a company that has previously built power plants with a capacity of at least 25,000 MW, has more than 5,000 employees and a EUR 4.5 billion turnover per year, over the last three years.  The bidder must also prove successful implementation of at least one contract of the same or similar nature up to the level of full project development and financing for projects with a total installed capacity of at least 400 MW.

The strategic partner must also undertake the obligation to complete the construction of solar power plants by June 1, 2028.
