Serbia Nuclear Technology
The Government of Serbia is using its stable fiscal position to plan aggressive investments into energy transition and is exploring all types of clean energy solutions, including nuclear energy.
The Serbian Government and the Electric Power of Serbia (EPS) both recognize that Serbia needs to transition from fossil fuel based generation to clean energy solutions to fuel future economic growth and meet Serbia’s commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Serbia needs to increase the production of energy by an additional 5,000 GWh per year or 15% of the current production in the next six years. This equates to additional investments of at least €3 billion by the end of 2025.
Currently Serbia has a moratorium on the development of nuclear energy. However, the Government of Serbia is signaling that Serbia is considering including nuclear power in Serbia’s energy mix. In addition to repealing the moratorium, Serbia would need capacity building and all additional products and services to develop its nuclear program.
