Serbia Information Technology Healthcare Digitalization

The Government of Serbia (GoS) is prioritizing the digitalization of the economy with a concerted effort to transition government platforms to online e-government solutions. This strategic initiative has led to significant advancements in various sectors, but development is still needed, including in the healthcare sector.
The Digitalization Program in the Healthcare System of the Republic of Serbia for 2022-2026 represents a cornerstone of this digital transformation effort. This initiative aims to modernize the healthcare sector, creating an interconnected, efficient, and high-quality system. The program’s primary objectives include:
1.    Enhancing healthcare quality through process and service digitalization
2.    Increasing system efficiency
3.    Improving the accessibility of health services
4.    Strengthening healthcare workers’ ICT capabilities
5.    Ensuring patient data protection and information system security

Ongoing activities include the consolidation of electronic health records (EHRs), the digitalization of medical histories and patients’ treatment records across healthcare providers, and the digitalization of sick leave and prescriptions.
