Saudi Arabia Solar Energy Sector
The King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) signed an agreement to operate a solar field production system in the area of AlKhafji with an estimated production capacity of 60,000 cubic meters of desalinated water per day. This project aligns with the Saudi Arabian Government’s objective to increase the use of alternative energy sources as part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 plan.
The AlKhafji solar field, located in northeast Saudi Arabia, has a significant ability to expand and increase production capacity to 90,000 cubic meters of desalinated water per day using reverse osmosis technology.
U.S. companies with expertise on energy-efficient systems and applications such as solar-driven technologies are encouraged to consider this market. Technologies that achieve the following are in demand:
- reverse osmosis
- forward osmosis
- electrodialysis
- hybrid membrane distillation
- ultrafiltration systems
