Poland Aerospace and Defense Military Drone Force Established

In 2024, Polish Ministry of National Defense announced plans to create a separate new force within its armed forces system, Drone Forces. On January 1st, 2025, the Inspectorate for Unmanned Aerial Systems Forces has been established within the structure of the General Command of the Polish Armed Forces. The Inspectorate will be led by Brigadier General Mirosław Bodnar.

Creation of the Drone Forces will be incorporated in the development program for the Polish Armed Forces for years 2025-2039. It has resulted from the growing number of such systems used in the Polish military, and the analysis of the war developments in Ukraine, where UAV systems are widely used, and where the establishment of a separate force has led to its more efficient use on the battlefield.

According to Colonel Łukasz Andrzejewski-Popow, General Counselor to General Commander, the creation of a separate force means that UAVs will be fully integrated into the Polish Armed Forces, with a uniform training, planning and acquisition and implementation process. Within the Inspectorate, there will be directorates for Air Force, Land Forces, Navy and anti-drone systems. The technology will be mostly used in the Air Force, but such systems are being more commonly used also on the land and at the sea. Acquisitions for this new type of forces will be financed from the budget of the Ministry of National Defense.

U.S. Commercial Service recommends that U.S. companies offering unmanned aerial vehicles follow developments on this new type of forces, because this structure will be expanding and there will be opportunities for U.S. companies to propose their solutions.
