Nigeria Equipment Opportunities for Suppliers of Egg Powder Machinery
Demand for egg powder making machinery is growing in Nigeria and this is opening opportunities for U.S. suppliers of the equipment. Every year, processed foods manufacturers in the country import an estimated $1 billion worth of egg powder due to shortages in local supply. Although there are two well-established egg powder manufacturers in Nigeria, growing market demand is driving new entrants as the need increases for solutions to the perennial egg glut problems. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Nigeria has the biggest egg market in Sub-Saharan Africa, with an annual production output of over 650,000 metric tons of eggs. However, according to the Poultry Farmers Association of Nigeria (PAN), the industry experiences an egg glut between February and May each year, because of low egg consumption during the period, resulting in significant losses and economic waste. To address this perennial problem, farmers are now resorting to technologies for dehydrating and processing eggs into powder. Although China and India offer cheaper, low-quality equipment, many Nigerian buyers prefer U.S.-made products for their durability and premium quality. Price remains a major buying determinant due to current economic conditions. Therefore, used equipment will find a market.
