Mexico Customs Inventory Control Update
Mexico’s updated Annex 24 of the Foreign Trade General Rules now has stricter requirements for certified companies’ inventory control systems.
On November 15, Mexican customs authorities will require online access to certified companies’ inventory control systems. This access will allow Mexican customs authorities to verify that inventory records comply with the updated regulations and that temporarily imported goods are properly re-exported.
This change brings stricter oversight to U.S. Exporters and U.S. companies with Mexican branches under Mexico’s certified company scheme.
Mexican companies are now required to submit necessary information within 48 hours of importing goods into Mexico. This new regulation also mandates that companies provide Mexican customs with online access, including sharing the system account and password, for inspections. This accelerated timeline means that companies need real-time, efficient processes to capture and report data immediately upon goods’ arrival in Mexico. This change could require system upgrades or workflow adjustments.
Missing these timelines and access requirements could result in penalties or delays, making it essential to update inventory management procedures to remain compliant. This regulatory change will take full effect starting November 15, 2024.
