Mexican Government to Publish Customs Broker Process

On June 22, 2023, the Mexican government published requirements to allow new applications for certified Mexican Customs Brokers. The applicants will have just five business days (including the day of its publication) to comply. The complete information is on the Ministry of Finance official website.

Since U.S. exporters must work with certified Customs Brokers to comply with Mexican customs regulations, this seminal decision to open doors for new Customs Brokers should help facilitate U.S. exports to Mexico. We strongly recommend that U.S. exporters maintain close contact with their Mexican clients and partners for this decision’s potential legal, tax, and customs implications.

Customs Brokers Agents are private individuals, partnerships, associations, or corporations licensed, audited, and regulated by the Mexican government. Customs broker agents represent importers and exporters before the Mexican Customs Agency, the Mexican Tax Administration Service, and other Mexican government agencies whose role it is to oversee customs compliance, trade procedures, payment of taxes and applicable fees for imported merchandise, and have expertise in classification, valuation, and regulations to clear goods and shipments.
