Israel's Specialized LGBTQAI+ Healthcare
The Israeli healthcare system has been increasingly investing in LGBTQAI+ focused medicine, developing unique solutions and medical centers for the community.
As awareness of the LGBTQAI+ community’s needs for specialized medicine increases, the Israeli healthcare system has been investing more resources in creating and developing community-oriented healthcare solutions. In Israel, these efforts are evident throughout the healthcare system. First, there are numerous notable medical centers dedicated to the LGBTQAI+ community; the two largest HMOs in Israel – Clalit and Maccabi – have opened centers in the largest cities in Israel, mainly in Tel Aviv, to welcome patients from the community. More recently, Tel Aviv’s largest, government-owned hospital, Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov), announced the launch of the largest, most advanced LGBTQAI+ medical center in Israel and the region. The unique facility will offer a variety of LGBTQAI+ medicine, covering aspects and all stages of a patience’s life: mental, physical, geriatric care; and more.
On a national level, the Israeli Ministry of Health has initiatives aimed at improving healthcare access and quality for LGBTQAI+ individuals. This includes training for healthcare providers on LGBTQAI+ issues and promoting inclusivity. Additionally, several specialized treatments – such as hormone therapy, gender-affirming treatments, and more – were included in the country’s ‘health basket’; medical treatments subsidized by the national healthcare insurance.
The adoption and development of LGBTQAI+ medicine in Israel offer various opportunities to U.S. companies specializing in the field. From mental care services to medical equipment, as the Israeli market grows, U.S.-based companies will find local partners to collaborate with.
