El Salvador Electronic Signatures
El Salvador approved changes to the 2015 Electronic Signature Law, fostering demand for electronic signature solutions.
In August 2021, reforms to the Electronic Signature Law were published on the official gazette authorizing the use among organizations and government for local and international business. This reform changes the type of allowed e-signature, from a very basic e-signature to a locked and secured format. The goal of this reform is to encourage the use of electronic signatures to improve competitiveness, reduce costs, make better use of time and resources, increase productivity, and to enhance security.
The reform also established the Ministry of Economy as the certification authority to control and monitor providers of electronic certification, as well as the storage of electronic documents and backup. Interested companies should register on the Ministry of Economy website to receive credentials.
U.S. companies involved in electronic signature technology solutions and website security certificates are encouraged to contact the U.S. Department of Commerce in San Salvador, El Salvador for more information: office.sansalvador@trade.gov
