Cote d’Ivoire and the African Development Bank: Country Strategy Paper 2023-2028
The African Development Bank publishes a new 5-year country strategy for Cote d’Ivoire.
As both the economic capital of Cote d’Ivoire and the headquarters of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Abidjan benefits from a strong relationship with the Bank. Maintaining an average economic growth rate of 8% in 2012-2019, Cote d’Ivoire is considered amongst the top performing economies on the continent and possesses a promising investing environment. With a historic portfolio of over $2.3 Billion USD, 45 currently active operations, and investments spread over multiple sectors such as transport (44%), energy (23%), and agriculture (18%), the Bank’s financing in Cote d’Ivoire plays an integral role in spurring development.
As of July 4th, 2023, The AfDB released a new country strategy paper highlighting two new target areas during the 2023-2028 period:
• Development of sustainable infrastructure to boost economic competitiveness and strengthen regional integration.
• Support for the development of industrial and agricultural value chains for inclusive growth
The AfDB’s 2023-2028 Country Strategy Paper aims to spur private sector involvement, in sectors including infrastructure, energy, and the digital economy while improving the ease of doing business. The Bank has developed the following key objectives during the upcoming 5-year strategy: I. Improved access to quality transport services; II improved access to reliable energy at lower cost; III access to quality digital infrastructure and services at lower cost; IV. improved access to food products, due to better agricultural productivity; V improved access to financing, skills and technologies to promote agro-industrial transformation; VI effective implementation of industrial policy. The indicative lending comprises 14 sovereign and 5 non-sovereign operations.
