Côte d'Ivoire - Climate Change and Environment Projects List

The government of Cote d’Ivoire released a priority list of 53 climate change projects ready for financing.

In September this year, the Ministry of Environment, Sustainable Development, and Ecological Transition (MINEDDTE) released the National Portfolio of Climate Change and Environment Projects, a comprehensive initiative aimed at addressing the climate emergency in Côte d’Ivoire. The portfolio consists of 315 projects – 53 priority projects ready for financing (totaling over $14.2 billion), 134 with concept notes, and 128 ideas - identified through a participatory and inclusive process with civil society, universities and research centers, the banking sector, various ministries, cooperations, the private sector, and the IMF. The projects are organized into six programmatic areas and covering many sectors:  agriculture, forestry, water, waste management, circular economy, energy, transportation, health, and coastal zones.  Approximately half of the projects would be the responsibility of MINEDDTE, and the other half would be overseen by a mix of the private sector, cooperations, civil society, and universities. Financing options for the projects include green bonds, public-private sector partnerships, international finance institutions, and multilateral development banks.

The portfolio is one component of the national climate change governance infrastructure that also includes a ministerial committee, a climate change law, and a carbon market. The projects align with the government’s Nationally Determined Contributions and National Development Plan.
