CHINA WUHAN HEALTHCARE MARKET
Wuhan’s municipal government released a senior care survey in November 2020, indicating that 78.2% of elderly residents preferred home care and 38.2% could cover $300 per month for senior care services. The survey estimated a $3.5 billion market to meet the city’s senior care needs. Based on Wuhan’s census in mid-2021, Wuhan reported 2.12 million residents are at the age of 60 or above, 17.23% of the total population.
While China’s cities are seeking their own effective way to tackle regional aging issues, Wuhan has implemented a citywide plan of internet services and home care since early 2018. In 2019, Wuhan was selected as one of three cities, including Hefei and Hangzhou, to carry out the national Pilot Projects of Elderly Society with AI Technology.
Driven by the city government’s strategy, the Wuhan regional market is motivated to adopt smart innovative products that will allow its seniors to continue to safely reside at home. Local industry players have expressed a strong interest in U.S. solutions for senior care, including remote patient monitoring devices, such as heart monitors, apnea monitors, breathing apparatuses, and specialized monitors/ early detection solutions for dementia and Parkinson’s disease.
