China Beijing Motorcycle Market

Demand for motorcycles in Beijing increased in 2020, providing attractive market opportunities for U.S.-made motorcycles.  According to the “2021 Beijing Traffic Development Annual Report,” 107,000 new motorcycle units were sold in Beijing in 2020, which represents a year-over-year increase of 71.8%. 

The increase in demand for motorcycles is driven by people’s growing preference for green transportation and desire to reduce risks of COVID-19 transmissions.  The use of motorcycles improves commuting efficiency, helps reduce traffic jams in urban areas, and is an increasingly affordable option for the highly mobile Beijing youth.  Motorcycles are in vogue in China and have social and environmental appeal to the younger generation.  For example, the youth are increasingly capturing and sharing vlogs of their motorcycle rides on social media.
