Canada Hydrogen Energy for Atlantic Provinces

Canada’s Atlantic provinces, with their well-developed expertise in energy production – particularly renewable energies like wind and hydro as well as new nuclear technologies – have identified hydrogen as a key component of their plans to achieve net-zero climate goals and to expand their energy exports.

All four provinces – Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador - have issued development roadmaps and frameworks within the past year outlining hydrogen’s potential impact on clean energy production and on how they can leverage their abundant natural resources, commerce-friendly geographic location, and green energy regulations to advance and capitalize on hydrogen as an energy source.

While each Province’s strategy is rooted in their competitive advantages, they all offer significant and numerous opportunities for U.S. companies with expertise in utilizing renewable energy to produce green hydrogen, utilizing the hydrogen itself (i.e., in electricity production, in hydrogen fuel cell technology, and other innovative technologies), or developing/servicing export markets for the surplus hydrogen fuels that they expect to have.

For detailed information about the provinces’ individual goals and strategies consult these resources:  the New Brunswick Hydrogen Roadmap; Nova Scotia’s Green Hydrogen Action Plan; Newfoundland and Labrador’s Hydrogen Development Action Plan; and, Prince Edward Island’s 2040 Net Zero Framework.
