Brazil Engineering Equipment and Services needed for Dam remediation
The State government is monitoring, through the Secretariat for the Environment and Infrastructure (Sema), the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) and the National System Operator (ONS), the dams at risk in Rio Grande do Sul. Data released by national authorities indicates that five structures are presenting a risk of collapse. Response actions are already underway by authorities. To avoid an eminent danger, new dams need to be built, existing dams decommissioned, and according to law this must include relocating affected populations to safe locations, cleaning up rivers, and other related impacts.
U.S. companies have the opportunity to supply equipment and services to support these efforts, including unmanned equipment with remote operation, drilling rigs for drilling and structure investigation, geotechnical monitoring, and satellite imaging (interferometry). Companies with experience in the areas of engineering, construction, decommissioning, geotechnics, reforestation, and relocation of cities (including prefabricated houses, schools, etc.) are encouraged to explore this market.
The process of reconstruction in Rio Grande do Sul is expected to occur over a long period of time due to the magnitude of the catastrophe. If your company offers equipment and services in these areas, please register with us to ensure we can update you when specific procurement opportunities are announced by the Brazilian Government.
