Brazil Computer and Telecommunications Import Tariffs

Under Brazilian law, the “ex-tariff” regime establishes temporary reductions on import duties for approved products under the computer and telecommunications goods special tariff line classification that would otherwise be subject to Mercosur’s Common External Tariff.

The decision will benefit 1,495 ICT goods ranging from Harmonized Code 84.43 to 90.32 which include printers, cryptocurrency storage devices and electronic boards, for example. According to the Ministry of Economy, the tariffs for these goods currently vary between zero and 16% and are now reduced by 10% of the tariff’s value. Additionally, all 2% rates are reduced to zero. The full text of the resolutions can be found here (in Portuguese): GECEX Resolution n. 156/2021 and GECEX Resolution n. 168/2021

The measure aims to boost investments in ICT products  not produced domestically and enable the implementation of technology that does not exist in Brazil.
