Nicole DeSilvis is the Senior Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Brazil
Next April, the U.S. government’s biggest annual trade mission is heading to South America, and if you’re looking to grow your business internationally, you won’t want to miss it. Trade Winds - The Americas will bring U.S. businesses of all sizes and from all industries and sectors to five countries across South America. This is a great opportunity for companies to connect with potential partners, distributors, and industry experts. Trade mission participants will receive exclusive, one-on-one sessions with trade specialists from U.S. Embassies and Consulates in the region, as well as partake in business matchmaking meetings and networking events.
Trade Winds – The Americas will be held in São Paulo, Brazil, from April 7-9, 2025. Widely known as Brazil’s business epicenter, São Paulo is the premiere location to make valuable business connections. Plus, the trade mission includes stops in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Uruguay—so the opportunities for U.S. businesses to explore the market are boundless.
Brazil – A Continental Opportunity: With a population of approximately 215 million, Brazil is the largest consumer market in Latin America and ranks as the 9th largest U.S. export market. Brazil also boasts the 5th largest digital population globally, positioning the country as a top choice for U.S. companies looking to expand in digital industries and e-commerce. In 2023, Brazil stood as the second-largest economy in the Western Hemisphere according to ITA data, with the United States serving as its second-largest trading partner. Bilateral trade in goods and services exceeded $115 billion last year, and demand for U.S. products continues to grow steadily.
Brazil has strong opportunities for U.S. companies across a variety of sectors, namely the rapidly growing healthcare, ICT, and security sectors. Whether it’s aviation, energy, or clean tech, there’s plenty of growth opportunities for your business. Brazil’s also preparing to host the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference (COP30) next year, so the timing couldn’t be better for U.S. companies in solar, wind, clean hydrogen, and smart grid solutions.
Like any market, Brazil has its complexities. You’ll need to understand the local regulatory, tax landscape, and dedicate resources to navigating both. But for companies looking to expand their operations, there are vast opportunities in Brazil. To learn more about doing business in Brazil, check out ITA’s Country Commercial Guide.
