Air passenger enplanements up 8% year over year in April 2024
Air passenger travel between the United States and Europe up 6.1% in April 2024
21.400 million in April 2024, up 8 (7.955%) percent compared to April 2023, with enplanements reaching 101.6 percent of pre-pandemic April 2019 volume.
Non-U.S. citizen air passenger arrivals to the United States from foreign countries totaled:
4.873 million in April 2024, up 6.8 percent compared to April 2023.
This represents 85.3 percent of pre-pandemic April 2019 volume.
U.S. citizen air passenger departures from the United States to foreign countries totaled:
5.544 million in April 2024, up 5.6 percent compared to April 2023.
This exceeded April 2019 volume by 16.9 percent.
Total air passenger travel (arrivals and departures) between the United States and other countries were led by Mexico 3.319 million, Canada 2.675 million, the United Kingdom 1.714 million, the Dominican Republic 931,000, and Germany 853,000.
International regional air travel to/from the United States:
Europe totaled 6.011 million passengers, up 6.1 percent over April 2023, and down only (-2.9 percent) compared to April 2019.
(U.S citizen departures were up +17.8 percent compared to April 2019, while European citizen arrivals were down -21.6 percent.)
South/Central America/Caribbean totaled 5.430 million, up 8.9 percent over April 2023, and 11.8 percent compared to April 2019.
Asia totaled 2.326 million passengers, up 22.5 percent over April 2023, but down (-21.8 percent) compared to April 2019.
(Asian citizen arrivals to the U.S. were down -33.5 percent compared to April 2019, and U.S. citizen departures were down -8 percent.)
Top U.S. Ports serving international locations were New York (JFK) 2.938 million, Miami (MIA) 2.018 million, Los Angeles (LAX) 1.951 million, Newark (EWR) 1.311 million, and San Francisco (SFO) 1.263 million.
Top Foreign Ports serving U.S. locations were London Heathrow (LHR) 1.451 million, Toronto (YYZ) 1.087 million, Cancun (CUN) 1.072 million, Paris (CDG) 678,000, and Mexico (MEX) 645,000.
